oops! rebooting computer this morning
Saw in P.O.S.T only 8 gb ram. Not good. Non returnable G.skill too. Bought from Newegg.
Downloading UBCD new version now.
Windows 7 64bit index says I have 12gb (7.xx) available usage) Not good either, I have 16gb installed, two sticks of 8 each. Only had this built about four months now. Not happy!!! LOL
When first built P.O.S.T showed 16gb installed, Windows index showed 16gb installed, don't know when it stopped showing the correct amount, cause I never shut down, and only restarted when necessary. Wasn't having any problems either. No slowness, no glitches, nothing.
I'll let you know what UBCD says tomorrow. Cause I won't run that test until tonight.

All fixed. Memtest found no errors, saw both modules. and so I got to thinking, perhaps a slot went bad.
Shut computer down, swapped memory to two other slots, viola, 16GB showing in P.O.S.T again and also in Windows again.
Might be time for a new motherboard in a few months. Steering away from Gigabtye this time.

Hey photolady, good to see you're back in business . . . both here on VirtualDr and on your possibly flaky motherboard.

I think my problem is buying motherboards on Amazon. I need to find somewhere else to get them. Fry's maybe. They have a Fry's in Georgia but I can't drive up there and I don't know if they still ship out of their stores like they used to do.

Newegg.com - check for sale items and the review ratings.

Nope, not going there ever again. Doc knows of the problems I've had lately with them, so no, not newegg. I was a newegg'r for about 20 years up until this last year, then I had a major problem with them. So, nope, not going to happen anymore.

yeah, I forgot about them, Doc. I buy a lot of photo gear from them, and am even registered with them. I'll see what they have closer to the first.
My biggest problem is trying to stay away from AMD's Ryzen boards.

Oh, https://www.antonline.com/ is another I use occasionally.
Never built myself an AMD setup ... (yet?).

I've built my own since I joined VDR in 2002.
I guess the first one wasn't AMD though, but the second one was because parts were cheaper. I couldn't afford to buy Intel.

Yep, I remember. You've been an AMD fan for as long as I've known you. Their new Ryzen is interesting/tempting.

Yeah, but Ryzen insists you run Windows 10, and I'm holding out until I have to go that way. I have one more year of support from Microsoft for Windows 7, then I'll have to switch. I did find a MSI board that will still run Windows 7 but I'd have to change to DDR4 memory (which is cheap right now too) and a different CPU. Which I'm also trying to avoid since I just bought both recently.
When I joined, Train, GreyGoose, and the other older guys helped me build my first computer. I think I gained half my first 300 posts with questions on what to buy and how to put it together that first month.

I am building a new system now (Intel). It will have Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC and Linux Mint (Cinnamon) installed. I should be able to start installing Windows this weekend.

I can't afford Intel. And the programs I use won't run on Linux. Forget Windows 10, I already said I'm not going there until I have to.
