Store bought commercial audio CD's are .wav files and have to be formatted as such to play in a typical music CD player. I'm pretty sure that some car CD players will now also play mp3's as well.

I guess that's why the burned CD didn't work. The songs were saved as .mp3's by Train and sent to me on CDs for home use. I thought I'd try them in my new Jeep.
Can I convert MP3 to .wav?

You can use Windows Media Player..

Just remember that the new CD will only hold around 1/10th the no of songs depending on song length because the new wav files will be much larger than the burned mp3s

Ok, thanks fink.
I'm still trying to find out what format the CD player in the Jeep will play. You'd think this newer year it is would play mp3s. It's a 2006. The manual mentions dvds too. But I can't find any further information on that either.

Okay, I got bored tonight and decided to rip that disk I made to .wav files. I have it now burning a new disk.
I have not yet, tested the drive in Jeep with a commercial disk but I can't see why it wouldn't. We'll see tomorrow. eh?

Okay mister fink, they're not .wav files but .cda files. I checked a commercial disk and it's properties said, .cda. Have any idea how to convert .wav files to .cda? I tried Windows media player and that didn't do it.

As far as I know Windows sees the .wav files as .cda for it's own usage..
CDA is Microsoft's own file extension for its presentation of digital playback of CD audio. It only applies if you are looking at the CD drive in Windows Explorer, and they function kind of like a "shortcut" to open a media player.

Does the CD you made not play in the car? Have you tried any store bought CD's?
Audacity, which is free and very good, might be an option...

The one I burned with Windows Media Player would not play in the cd player in the Jeep. It would play a commercial cd though.
I'll try Audacity and see if that will work.
Thanks fink!

I've gotten that too. Some play in the computer, not in the car or my stereo system CD player. Others play just fine everywhere.
Fink, I believe you said before that the solution was to burn the CD at the lowest speed available.

Yeah, I burned at lowest speed possible. And at your original post cda stands for CD Audio. I haven't tried Audacity yet though. No time.

My car is 14 years old, and it plays MP3's, but it doesn't play CDA's. If CDA is just the MS version of wav, why don't some CD players read them?

My Jeep is only 12 years old, it's a 2006 2wd Sport so I thought it should play mp3s. That was the first disk I tried in the cd player but it wouldn't play it. It'll play commercial cds though, it won't let me play tracks past a certain track. The facing doesn't say track 1, track 2, it says disc 1, disc 2 up to disc 6. And the manual I found online says it's supposed to be a 6 cd disc changer but I can't find the disc changer to load the 6 discs to it.

Try loading the other CD's through the slot... they may automatically stack themselves inside the unit.
And to be clear, Audacity doesn't do the burning, it makes the play list so you'll still need to use another utility (like CDburner XP) to do the burn.
