Resolved [RESOLVED] Driver For An HP Color Laserjet CP3505n Printer

The computer has XP 32 bit on it. When I go to HP's site they say they don't support the system. Is there any way to get a driver for this? Thanks

Looks like the driver is on the HP support site. Did you change the selected OS to Windows XP 32-bit?

Thanks for the reply! Yes I did enter Windows and XP 32 bit. I downloaded cp3505 PCL5 and 6 version 61.082.61.64. So I clicked on download. Then clicked on the downloaded file. Click run. Clicked on unzip. Went to the hard drive and clicked on the file PCL5 driver. Lots of files but there wasn't any .exe files. I clicked on your blue link to get to the files. Is that the support site you wanted me to go to?

You can use an .inf file to install the printer driver.

Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes
    Double-click Add Printer
    Click Next
If you are setting up a "Local printer", uncheck "Automatically detect...", and then click Next
Select the Printer Port, and then click Next
    Click Have Disk...
Browse to the .inf file (Ex. hpc3505b.inf), and click Open
    Click OK
(You should see HP Color LaserJet CP3505 PCL 5c now)
    Click Next
Click Next again (You can change the printer name if you want)
    Click Next again (test page)
    Click Finish

How are you connecting the printer to the PC? If you are using a network port, you'd have to set that up.

The printer is connected to a computer using a USB cord.

During the setup, which port setting did you use? The default is LPT1, but that's for parallel ports. USB isn't one of the default options.

If anything, you might have been prompted to install drivers when you plugged the printer into the USB port. It may have created a "DOT4PRT" port. Check Device Manager to see if any ports were added. That's the printer port setting you would need to use.

LPT1 is not going to work for USB. Again, that's for parallel ports. Like I mentioned, USB was not one of the default options in XP.

Were you prompted for drivers when you plugged in the printer? If so, you should have pointed to the .inf file. You might even want to unplug the printer, delete it, and then plug it back in.

Deleted the printer. Followed your instructions. The choice of ports was USB001 so I figured it was the one. Continued on and printed a test page! I can't believe how up tight I get when doing computer stuff and not paying close attention to instructions. So thank you very much! Wahoo!

USB001 makes sense. The .inf said DOT4PRT, but I've seen USB001 before also.
