Resolved [RESOLVED] wifi printer won't work

I don't have my wifi printer set up yet so I'm trying to print to my brother's wifi HP but it's not working. I've added his printer by searching for devices in the network and it did add the printer. But nothing sends to the printer even though I've made his printer the default.

I'm on my Dell laptop at the moment. Do I actually need to install his printer driver too?

If the driver did not install automatically, you may need to install it. What model HP printer is it?

If the computer picks up the printer, why should I have to install the driver? And it's a HP 2600 series. I don't have the specific number of it.

If you didn't install HP's driver software, Windows will use its built-in drivers (if it has any) for the make and model of printer. Those drivers rarely work well. Also, HP's drivers these days are finicky, which is one reason why I always use Brother printers.

Usually, I'd install the HP driver first, and it will try to discover the printer on the network. You'd want to use the HP drivers, especially on multi-function or AIO printers.

The Windows driver might work, if you were not trying to connect using the wireless (using a USB cable), but even then the HP drivers are the way to go.

Nothing worked. I couldn't get a driver, all it wanted to give me was a firmware update. When I tried to install the firmware it said it couldn't find the printer.

Did I mention I dislike HP printers. I've decided to not continue trying to install this. My printer is boxed up until tomorrow or the next day and I'll get that up and running. It's wireless too but the driver for it is already installed.

Ah, sorry about that. I didn't notice it was only firmware. What OS are you running?

    Maybe this one will work?

Ok thanks Midknyte that was what I needed. I downloaded the driver but I need my brother's help and he isn't home right now.

It asked me to plug the printer in via USB first and I didn't think I needed to do that to install a wireless connection. I tried something else and that didn't work either. I think I'm going to unpack my Epson and set it up tomorrow. What I wanted to print yesterday isn't relevant today. It was just a grocery list.
