will my 3.0 usb drive work on my 10 yr HP?

just bought an external usb 3.0 cd/dvd reader /writer and as good as reviews have it . need to know if my 10 yr old HP elitebook 8730w will handle it ok..
running windows 10 see sig ..

and also the specifications state this : .
Please hook up the device to the direct USB port on your computer. If you connect it to a
USB hub or extension cords, it maybe cannot recognize the Driver or not read the CD/DVD.

Question I have 4 usb ports which one is 'direct' I have 3 on right side and one one left side below the hdmi port ..

    thanks

Direct would be any of the ports on the laptop itself, not a hub. That's probably due to the power requirements of the drive. It may work on a powered hub, though.

I'm guessing you only have USB2.0 ports. Some external drives have 2 USB plugs. USB2.0 ports provide less power than USB3.0 ports, so you might need to use both USB plugs to provide adequate power.
