    HP laptop scrolling by itself

My HP laptop just started this 2 days ago. When I try to scroll slowly down a page it just takes off and scrolls so fast that I cannot see the things I am looking for on any given page. HELP! Forgot to say it is Windows 10

What method are you using for scrolling?

Touchpad scroll section, moving the mouse pointer to the scroll bar arrows and clicking, moving the scroll indicator with the mouse pointer, external mouse?

Use my touch pad and usually use the left button to click one line at a time as to read a page. But it just takes off now and won't stop. The scroll indicator does the same thing.

It sounds like Windows 10 may have helpfully "updated" your touchpad driver. If you have a USB mouse, you could try using that to see if it exhibits the same symptoms. Also, a System Restore (provided you have that enabled - it is NOT enabled on Windows 10 by default) to a date prior to the issue occurring might work.

TY I thought of system restore but last time I did it, it was night and I guess it went to sleep cause it took all evening and most of next morning. I will try that.

If that fixes the issue, the link below has information on how to stop Windows 10 from updating drivers:

That did not stop it. Any other ideas?

What did not stop it? A System Restore?

Did you try a USB mouse?

Did you check the touchpad settings in Settings / Control Panel?

System restore did not work. I do not have a mouse. Yes I did check settings.

Are you able to move the scroll bar slider manually up and down without uncontrolled scrolling?
