Which operating system are you using?

MSE.. Microsoft Security Essentials is what many of us here use. It doesn't have any of those extras that nag you about non-security related things. Depending on your operating system it may already be installed on your computer.

It can be downloaded here for installation on Win 7 and Vista...

Rogue Killer is free but there is a paid-for version that would require a license. Just ignore the license request and run it.. it is available here.. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/roguekiller/

If you think you may have a malware infection it would be better to start a new thread in our intensive care forum where Broni can give you more specific instructions on when and how to run Rogue Killer or other scanners. It's possible to delete wrong items without knowing exactly what to do.

I was declared clean by Broni 22/6/18 less than 2 weeks ago but things seem a bit hesitant, should I go to intensive care or wait and see if getting rid of Avast helps Thanks

    Use Avast's own removal tool..

    https://www.avast.com/en-ca/uninstall-utility

Win 10 already has MSE (now renamed Windows Defender Security Center). Removing Avast should turn it back on automatically on but to be sure have a look in settings/update and security. See pic...

Then you should be able to download Rogue Killer. If things still are unusually slow AND Rogue Killer indicates any malware issues then I would redo the intensive forum regimen.

One more problem I have is with Ccleaner, when I do a scan it asks to shutdown Microsoft Edge as it's still running then force it to close
but I don't use Microsoft Edge I only ever use Internet Explorer. Is there a way to stop this, Thanks

Check the Processes tab in Task Manager to see if Edge is running. If you are using Internet Explorer, you should see iexlpore.exe listed. However, Microsoft has made the Edge and Internet Explorer icons very similar. You could also check the Startup programs to see if Edge is listed there.

Check Services to see if there is anything related there.

There's nothing in services that mentions Microsoft edge

If that is actually the Edge Content Process, Microsoft does not really want you to disable that, since they want you to use Edge. You could try the suggestion on the last post at the link below.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...4378844?page=3

If you are not using Edge at all, you could disable it.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sys...loads/autoruns

Another possibly useful link if you can't disable it and it is hogging resources and memory:

I would like to disable Edge but I don't understand what Autoruns is about, my pc experience is quite low.
Is there an easier way to disable Edge.
