    Resolved [RESOLVED] Processes question

I'm normally running 46 - 51 processes but today I noticed 71. Why do I have 16 instances of chrome.exe running and 15 instances of svchost.exe when I've only just turned on the machine? I only have two Chrome windows open.
    Can anyone explain?

    Thanks - rev

Each tab in Chrome creates a chrome.exe process. If there are plugins like Flash on the page, then another Chrome process is started. If you have extensions that run in the background like Hangouts, those will create Chrome processes also.

svchost.exe is usually called by another process or service. Some of them would be related to Chrome.

    Hi,
    Reverend

    don't worry

Each Chrome tab creates a chrome.exe process. If there are extensions such as Flash on the page, another Chrome process starts. If you have background extensions like Hangouts, Chrome operations will also be created.

Thanks but it had reached a point where the machine was noticeably slower. I have 12 gig of RAM, i975 3.33 quad core chip and the machine hadn't been on long, not much was running.

I killed all extensions and tabs and eventually got the performance back. You can consider this one closed.

    Thanks - rev
