    1. Where are the docs stored?
    2. Did you google the very common error->the RPC server is unavailable ?

    I logged out

then 3 hours later I logged back on line and bingo ...
    everything ok ....

but for a while it was pretty scary not having access to my documents... half of the shortcuts on desktop not working

I could nt even get up the turn off computor option had to switch off manually .... !

I used to think Documents was just a place to put photos... but seems its more than that ... its on the web and you can search the web with it etc ....

Begs the question why cant there be a place you can put photos movies etc that is just a folder on your hard drive .... just a place to keep stuff ...... without being a kind of browser on the net.... and probably gettable by a clever hacker ?

    thanks for any comments ....

    What are those shortcuts for?

That should have nothing to do with Internet applications or storage. What happened when you used the usual procedure to shut down the computer?

There is - you just have to use it, although Microsoft and Google would prefer that you give all of your documents to them. When you want to save a document, don't just use whatever storage location the application wants to use, specify where you want to save the document. If you can tell us which applications you are using (Microsoft Office 365, Google G-Suite, etc.), we can show you how to specify a storage location.

Right-click on a folder icon and select Properties. On the General or Shortcut tabs, if you see a drive letter and a colon (C: for example), the location is on your computer. If you don't see that, then the location is NOT on your computer.

Files in C:\Users\meadow\Downloads should be available even if your internet connection fails.
