how to turn off Java updates.. regfile?

in using windows XP I'm, constantly having to turn off the latest build or version or updates for Java .. I think as we know Java does not support windows XP since 2016 (?),, I know when I click to install it blinks off afetr a few seconds and nothing is downloaded .

My current version of Java is is version 8 update 151 (build 1.8.0_151-b12
    (this windows XP Pro 5.1 2600 service pack 3 build 2600 .. )

I can cancel/ turn off,.. etc but where to stop the reminders? would it be in the registry if so does anyone have the correct key and workaround ?

    thanks

I don't have an XP machine with Java anymore, but is there a Java entry in Control Panel? There should be an Update tab where you can uncheck "Check for Updates Automatically".

What do you use Java for? If nothing critical you might consider uninstalling it. I did years ago and aside from one or two websites that had some time wasting computer games I never needed it and definitely don't miss it. It's also been a target for malware and is constantly issuing updates, many for security issues.
    Don't believe everything you think.
