Powered speakers or a normal stereo amp/receiver hooked up to speakers. Or a sound bar you can place below the TV.. http://www.klipsch.ca/blog/buying-a-...ead-this-first
There are MANY options for all of the above in a broad price range.

Okay. I found out what I needed to know. I was trying to get by with a couple of speakers with RCA plugs. This would only work if I had a receiver with a HDMI, I believe it is, and RCA receptacles. My receiver does not have HDMI. This would require buying a receiver with both. The other solution is a sound bar which plugs right into the t.v. So much for a quick and cheap fix. I will see what my son wants to do. It is his t.v. Thanks for the help!

To do it cheaply you could purchase one of these female miniplug (1/8") to male stereo RCA adapters and use an inexpensive pair of powered computer speakers.

One of many examples of self powered computer speakers..

You're welcome. One other thing.. if the TV has a headphone output you can plug the speakers mini jack directly into that. That's what I currently do.
