Few questions about using Windows 10

Not my computer, I've never had Windows 10 on either my desktop or my laptop.

My nephew just bought a Lenovo Ideapad that includes Windows 10 as the OS. Specs here:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    1. Should I install FireFox on there?

    2. Is Defender good enough?

Any other suggestions you can make because I have a feeling I'm going to be the one installing and teaching him how to use it.
He's never used computer before, even though he has an old iphone, he only uses it to text or make phone calls.

Using Firefox and Defender is fine.
Been using both since Xp with no problems.

2 GB of ram , no matter what OS is installed it will not be quick.
Updates may need a hour or 2 to install though.

Text. email and the like, a bit of patience and it will do the job.

FF and uBlock , should do fine.

Thanks Train. I've updated it as far as it would for now. I haven't installed FF yet but will tomorrow because I'm tired now and don't feel like messing with it any more.

I'm sure I'll have to ask more questions later. He's never used a computer and I've never used Windows 10. And he wants me to help him learn it. I am not looking forward to this project.

Maybe not that bad, but if one has never used it, it can be daunting trying to navigate around the apps. LOL

Another question on installing FF. If he has only 32GB drive, should I install the mobile version of FF or even the ESR version instead of the full version?

I have the Ideapad with me right now while he's gone to check on his mom.

What do you mean by "mobile"? There is a portable version, but that wouldn't save any space.
ESR is about the same size, but it would allow you to use older addons longer.

You could limit the cache size. Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Override automatic cache management

Thanks Midknyte and yes, I meant portable. For phones they are usually called mobile apps.

He's not savvy enough to figure out about add ons. I'm just going to install FF and leave it as it is except for changing a few things like mine is setup.

Weird pop up came on while I was trying to find something on the notification center. It said "remove previous Windows" I thought this was a new computer and it shouldn't have a previous Windows in it.

Words are very small. Is there a way in Windows 10 to enlarge them?

I would at least install uBlock Origin to block ads on FF.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/fir...ublock-origin/

    You could try the Magnifier:

Yeah, I forgot about u block Origin. I'll get that installed before he gets home tonight.

I'm not sure he'd like Magnifier. I thought there would be a way to increase text size like I do on my Windows 7. Under the display options.
