    Opinions on Avast SafeZone browser

I've used Firefox and Chrome (predominately) over the past ten years. For whatever reason, Firefox seems to have reset itself and lost all my bookmarks. Chrome has gotten maddingly slow over the past year or so. I tried SafeZone and was surprised how fast it was compared to Chrome. Of course, I have no bookmarks saved and have done nothing else that may bog it down. I was just wondering what you experts think of this browser. Does anyone use it as their main browser?
Are there drawbacks I am not aware of? Is it safe to use for financial matters? Just looking for opinions. Thanks.

Hard pass. I wouldn't bother with Chrome clones. Or Firefox clones for that matter.

Chrome bogs down when you have multiple tabs open. It also depends on the content of each webpage. Run an adblocker should help. I use ublock Origin for Chrome and Firefox.

As for Firefox resetting, it could have been a bad addon or just a corrupt profile. Hard to say at this point.

I use Chrome and Firefox. But over time, I've decided Chrome is the best answer for most users. I just think it has the best chance for keeping most users safe from bad stuff. If one keeps it up to date, and use uBlock Origin, (and don't surf to places that you know are dicey) you have a decent fighting chance of staying clean.

We run Chrome at work as our default browser. It's always been fast and zippy, even though it's on a 20 meg connection. The only extensions everyone has are uBlock Origin, Cisco Webex (for remote support) and LastPass. Depending on the user, Flash is either set to disabled or to ask first. And that's it. (The PCs are all Windows 7 with i5 chips and 8 GB of RAM.)

I could not recommend it higher for ease of use and safety.

    I forgot...

I wanted to stress how much I agree with MidKnyte. IMO, the typical user (and I count myself among that group) should not be using anything but Firefox or Google Chrome (with a few key privacy and safety extensions.) (Microsoft claims Edge for Win 10 is very safe. And uBlock Origin is available for Edge. But I have no experience with it and cannot recommend something I've never used.) The multitude of clones Firefox and Chrome both have are often marketing after thoughts or developed by a single coder. They just aren't tested nearly as well as the main versions (or as safe!)

(FYI... Chrome is based on Chromium https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium_(web_browser) The Chrome clones are developed from Chromium. Firefox has been based on Gecko https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gecko_(software) Firefox clones come from Gecko. It's worth noting that IMO, the average user should not be running these building block engines for their browsers. They aren't as feature or plugin complete as full fledged browsers.)

The question about Avast's SafeZone is a prime example. MidKnyte's PC World link proves my point. The clones profess to be better in some way. And sometimes they are. But sometimes they aren't. And we, as the users, never know which is which.

Go with the newest, safest (and often fastest) Firefox or Chrome browsers. If your choice is acting up, do a clean uninstall/install and try it again. I have been running PCs for years and never had a browser problem that a clean uninstall and fresh install didn't fix. And don't load them up with extensions. Use ONLY a couple extensions that enhance safety/privacy and that's it.

Avast's SafeZone has been known to cause some Win 7 and Win 10 users trouble. Not all just some.
