Resolved [RESOLVED] can't install Update KB4014981

    Win 7 Ultimate
Getting error all week: "Error 66A" with Win Update
    "April, 2017 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB4014981)"

Other updates have installed. Did some research.

    One possible solution:
    https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/ast...l-users-guide/

    Another solution?
    https://community.spiceworks.com/top...ce=recommended

I'm checking with Vdr before I uninstall anything from my system. This is scarier than uninstalling a program.

Dot Net framework security updates are always a pain.

If you do need to use the cleanup tool, only remove the version 4.x Dot Net Frameworks that you have installed, then try re-installing them from the Microsoft downloads, then try the update again.

This sounds familiar. Can I live without this update?

Can I live without this update?
Probably, but I would not recommend it, since it patches a significant security flaw.

I tried this MS fix, but it didn't work.

    I can't handle this one. I don't do DOS.

The instructions for the Dot Net Framework Cleanup tool are reasonably good, at least for Microsoft instructions. The tool may be the only way to get your update installed. When I use tools like this, I usually read the instructions through several times, make sure I have downloaded the required files, and have everything ready before trying them process for real. I also make sure to make a current image backup before starting just in case some unforeseen issue occurs that causes an unrecoverable problem.

    train--

I just got back to this and used the MS fixit tool. There was something wrong with my installer. So I installed the May rollup, but the April still appears not installed. Or was it included in a later one?

I really do not know, but the May did overlap the april one so I believe you should be OK.

3 desktops and 3 laptops have Win 10. For certain programs that only run in Windows.

A desktop and about 5 old laptops that I use for BETA test various operating systems. The old Compaq dates back to when XP first came out. Hate to get rid of it and it can and does run linux nicely.

I moderate in several forums, some have folks asking help with websites, well I have had to tell some to fix there site and get the malware/virus on it cleaned up. Now it I had found that mess with a Windows machine, it most likely would have been infected.
Linux, he he, I seen the mess, but was not infected in any way. A BIG advantage for me.

Are you on Mozillazine? that's my other very active one. I've been there since FF 2.

My PC's are simple & cheap. XP's a refurb from MicroCenter, this Win 7 I won in a raffle at my computer club, added 4 more MB RAM.

The XP's all screwed up. It's 10 years old, maybe older, and started telling me last week I need to activate the OS. Now I can't do anything with it. Can I put Win 7 on a 32-bit computer?

Win 7 - 32 bit but may need to add ram.

Firefox ESR 45.9.0 is my browser

Lot of my rigs are refurbished. Got them from Best buy or Walmart. I usually pull the hdd and replace it with a SSD and install what ever OS I want on it.
Newest desktops, 2 of them, I built in the fall of 2012. And yes they have Win 10 on them. I use the with Family Tree maker where I do have about 600 GB of data. Need the large hdds.

Might want to look at the refurbished, some come with Win 7 and others with Win 10. Could well be worth your while just in the cost of the Operating System alone.

I can't do another computer right now. Big car expenses

Here's the story: I always need at least 2 comp in case one needs fixing. I work and pay bills on mine. So I figured the old XP would be my backup, not in the sense of being an image, but in the sense of using the same programs while I'm working on the main one. I don't want to reactivate it, because they don't support XP any more

I can reinstall XP from its Macrium image, but I can't use it on the web, or install Win 7. Will the 7 run on 32-bit hardware? There are 4 GB RAM, and I can supply a system snapshot.
