    Firefox browser was hijacked.

I was surfing with Firefox the other day when suddenly I was taken to a porno page. There was a message that said I must pay a certain amount (?) or something else would happen (?). There was also audio of it. Not sure what that was. So I quickly unplugged my pc and took care of it that way. This happened again on a different day so I just unplugged the pc and the next time started using another browser. I have heard of this happening on the internet lately, but thought it couldn't happen to me. Did someone figure out my I.P. Address to track me that way? I have been wary of using Firefox again just because of that. So what can I do to make sure that doesn't happen again? I searched for I.P. tracking and there are some programs to protect you from that happening. Thing is I really don't want to pay for it. Is there a setting somewhere that I could set in Firefox? This mishap hasn't happened in days, but I just want to be safe and hope there is a way to do it. As it sits, everything has been fine lately. I am using Windows 10 in case you needed to know that. Thanks.

Are you using the latest updated version of Firefox?

Also, there are plenty of hacked websites out there these days.

You should probably scan your system for malware also. Malwarebytes would be the place to start.

It might be time for another full system checkup if anything is found.

Hi jdc2000. My system is clean. Ran both Malwarebytes and Avast. I am using the latest version of Firefox too. Anything else? Thanks.

What, if any, Firefox add-ins are you using?

Does the same thing happen at the same web site using a different browser?

Add-ons are all set to default. I am just using an email notifier. I don't remember the web site I was visiting, but I have had no trouble using other browsers. I have used Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome too. This may never happen again to me for all I know. But I am still wary to use Firefox all the time.

    For Firefox, uBlock origin
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ublock-origin/
is the only add-on I use.

A bad ad server/poorly written ad can cause all kinds of fits.

I don't see why Firefox is to blame if you went to a "bad" site and you're not using an adblocker.
