LinuxMint 18.1 question for you Linux users
A friend uses this and FireFox lately his computer has been not saving his password and logs him out of my other forum. I wondered if Linux has the same hardware listing as we windows users do. In Device Manager where you need to uncheck the box under Power Management so it doesn't turn off the network adapter.

This is more likely a Firefox setting, either not saving cookies or not saving the login credentials. It is also possible that the forum may have had an update that prevents saving login credentials (clears them from the browser history).
Possibly useful llink:

Train may have more information on this issue.

He said this only started recently and only when his computer is idle. He's cleared all cache's and cookies and he says his modem logs show no drop outs.

I have never run into any of that garbage with Linux.
My take, something is corrupted and they need to reset the browser.

Installed LinuxMint 18.1 cinnamon today and playing with it. Lots of what I call garbage sure installed.
Don't think I will play with it long either.

What sort of garbage did 18.1 install with? I was thinking of trying it out. I have a bootable DVD, but so far, I have not been able to get it to actually boot up on any systems.

Maybe I should ask him if this Linux was a new install. Could be if it was, it could be his problem. He did say after clearing everything out again, it's holding his password in FF now.

You will most like have to disable secure boot and enable legacy boot to get to boot up.
EUFI bios is the cause.
MX-16 using Rufus to make the USB stick and using the Fat32 format, should boot up.
Manual:
https://mxlinux.org/user_manual_mx16...Subsection-1.4
I like a more minimalistic approach , Just watched what passed while installing it .
Being deaf, I don't even care if the sound does not work.
I use older hardware generally, dual core, 4 MB of ram and a SSD is preferred.
A Dell optiplex 755 works fine for me. Got it refurbished and I do shutdown and swap SSDs for different OSs. Multiboot that way.
And this laptop
Device: portable System: Dell product: Latitude D630
Mobo: Dell model: 0KU184 BIOS: Dell v: A15 date: 11/24/2008
I have a extra hdd tray, so swapping is easy with it too.

UEFI here should apply to your situation

Sure hope that helps.

Thanks, Train.
I did disable the UEFI and enable legacy boot (on the systems that had UEFI)- no dice. I'll have to try some additional systems.

Don't feel bad, I had to get 3 new USB sticks. Found 2 hammer canidates.
Make a new dvd and be sure to slow the burn down. 8 or 12X should do the trick. Been there. 12X is what I normally burn at as anything faster, just becomes unbootable for me.

Thanks, Train.
I created the DVD at 4x. It boots, but when the desktop finally appears, the image is scrambled and no icons ever appear, it just hangs.

4x is to slow, yes, had that happen to me also, why I recommended 8 to 12X.
