    Firefox addons

I came across 3 firefox addons and was wondering if anyone uses any of them and if they are worth using. They are disconnect, flashblock, and noscript security suite. The links for each are below.

Disconnect is pretty much already in FF if you are up to date

    Flashblock is ok. Worth noting...
Note: Flashblock does not work with Javascript disabled or with NoScript installed.
NoScript is also ok. I used it for several years. I got tired of dealing with it. With a few exceptions, it requires interacting with it every time you visit a new website. NOT FUN!!

I migrated to uBlock Origin. I use the default filter settings with one addition. I activate (and update) ALL of the 3rd party filters for Malware Domains. uBlock Origin is much simpler than dealing with NoScript all the time. And, IMO, it provides good protection.

    **EDIT**
In my case, I run Windows 7 and don't install Flash at all. So my FF and IE can't run Flash. If I want/need Flash, I use Google Chrome (which uses a form of sandboxing technology for the built-in Flash (and more)) to keep things safer.

HTML5 everywhere is what I use for watching videos. I enable it when I need it.
    Mostly I watch

d_0 enabled CC for me. Lately it has been the "Build a Custom antiX-mate install"

I've run Disconnect and Noscript in the past, but they were too much of a hassle. There is a point where privacy addons interfere with usability. uBlock Origin does the job for me.

HAN, thank you for that detailed and very helpful reply. You stated "I activate (and update) ALL of the 3rd party filters for Malware Domains." Where can I activate that feature?

    Train, thanks for that link.

Midknyte, thanks for that advice. I only installed uBlock Origin.

Click on the uBO icon, then click on the black bar at the top (opens dashboard)
Click on the 3rd-party filters tab
Scroll to the Malware Domains section and check the ones you want
    Click Apply Changes

Midknyte. I didn't know that black bar at top was pertaining to the settings. Thanks so much.

You left click the uB shield icon and see the uBlock GUI
    GUI.jpg

Click on the top black bar. Then click on the 3rd party filter tab. My advice is to leave the defaults alone except for checking all of the Malware Domains boxes. Once you have checked them, update the filters by clicking on the Update now box near the top. Then close the tab and you're finished.

Of course, you can customize uBlock Origin to a high level. One way would be to add filters just for the sake of running them all. BUT, you could slow down your browsing by having too many filters. The key, IMO, is using the fewest that still get the job done.

Some recommendations for running different blocking levels of uBlock Origin by the author
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Blocking-mode Of course the tighter uBlock is ran, the higher chance of surfing issues a user might run in to. Browsing safety vs. ease of use...

BTW, the uBlock GUI is also where you can bypass filtering for individual websites if needed. Hovering over the blue power graphic shows you your choices. Clicking the blue "button" disables or enables the uBlock the the entire domain. Ctrl+click disables/enables for just the current page.
