    Firefox settings

I will be upgrading my pc to a dell xps 13 laptop. How can I use the same firefox settings that was used on my pc that I modified in about:config on my firefox browser on my Dell laptop?

Copy your profile from the old computer to the new one.

If you only want the about:config, copy the prefs.js file over.

What is the difference between the 2 profiles? I know add-ons modify the setting of a profile. Is the prefs.js file only a profile of settings that I just modified? If not, is there a way to backup and copy settings in a profile that I just modified?

What 2 profiles? You're copying your old profile to the new profile.

Like I said, prefs.js is only the about:config settings. It won't have your addons or other settings.

The link I posted also mentions backing up profiles.

Midknyte, I find the prefs.js file when I clicked help/troubleshooting information at top of browser. How come when I searched my c drive for that file, I couldn't find it?

As they links mention, prefs.js is in your profile folder. The second link tells you exactly how to find it.

How come when I searched my c drive for that file, I couldn't find it?
What did you use to search? Were you looking in your profile folder or not?

I find the prefs.js file when I clicked help/troubleshooting information at top of browser.
Did you click on the "Show Folder" button next to Profile folder? That takes you right to the Profile folder. That's where prefs.js is.

Midknyte, yea I found it. As I mentioned before, I found it when I clicked help/troubleshooting information at top of browser per instructions in your link. I was just wondering why I couldn't find it when I just did a search of my c drive for the file.

Also, I always had my firefox browser configured to open tabs from last session. I have a lot of saved tabs. Is that ok to do "every" time you open the browser?

How are you searching for the file? You know that AppData is a hidden folder, right? That's why they tell you to use the %Appdata% path to search for the folder.

Type %appdata%\mozilla\firefox\Profiles and click on OK or press Enter.
