    Flash Player update

I have tried twice to update my flash player in firefox and both times it said it has failed. It said my current version, which is outdated has been blocked. It that why the update fails? If so, how can I update my flash player?

Hi, SpywareDr. Thank you for that link. I am not sure if I am interrupting the article correctly, but, does that mean I should just continue using my outdated flash player until approx. May 2017 when Firefox 53 is available? I am currently using FF 51.

How did you try to update Flash? Did you download the actual installer from Adobe? Or were you prompted by a website? There are a LOT of false Flash error messages.

Get the updater from here. Make sure to uncheck any "tag along" installers, like McAfee.

Midknyte, I did it from the Adobe installer.

JDC2000, thanks for those links. Has anyone ever manually updated flash the way it was described in the links JDC2000 provided? I don't want to cause more issues that I already have.

Are you sure you have the correct installer? IE and Firefox use different Flash installers.
    Uninstall Flash and then reinstall.

These are the uninstall instructions from Adobe:

Midknyte, I unistalled flash player per the instructions from your link, then tried to reinstall it again and it said the update failed again. I downloaded and attempted to install version 24.0.0.194. I used the link below and it found it by itself. I didn't have to select the correct version. I clicked on the link in #2 from link below.

Are you still on the "bad" XP system? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if things weren't working properly.

I'd still like to get confirmation if this system is the same XP system that had problems. If so, it's futile to work on software problems right now.

Also, Chrome dropped support for XP back in version 50, so you'd have to install version 49 at best.

SpywareDr, I have Chrome installed on my system. As Midknyte said, flash player doesn't work in chrome on systems that have win xp since Microsoft stopped offering support on it.

Midknyte, yes it is the same computer. I am still using it until I purchase a Dell, which will be this week.

I suppose I would have to do another restore to get my old flash player plugins that I had in firefox before I attempted to update them them yesterday.

That's not what I said. Google discontinued XP support as of Chrome 50. You could still use Chrome 49 with the built-in Pepperflash. The plugin version of Adobe Flash would be the same for both Chrome and Firefox, though.

But I wouldn't waste too much time troubleshooting that system until you run some hardware diags first. In the end, you may need to just reinstall XP.

I thought that was the reason because I haven't been able to view certain videos in chrome for at least a number of months. How come I can't view a video in chrome that requires flash player? It says "couldn't load plugin"? I am going to retire this system when I purchase a Dell this week but, am using it until it then because that is the only system I have right now.
