Resolved [RESOLVED] Srvr 2012r2 and Remote Desktop Services - PRINTING ISSUES

Inshort, from what I've discovered is that by default, Easy Print is enabled on 2012r2.

When you disable Easy Print via gpedit , you can add drivers for a printer the good old fashion way. Technically, when Easy Print is enabled, the Advanced tab within the printer properties is Grayed out so you can't select different drivers.

ISSUE: I can't figure out a way to do both. When I first got this machine, my old faithfull HP 2035 wouldn't print. After I disabled Easy Print...it would print.. Few days later when attempting to add one of my customers I had the opposite problem. They couldn't print unless Easy Print was enabled.

I still have another customer to add to this machine and heaven only knows which setting will work for the.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I assume that you are using Remote Desktop Services for the client computers. What OS/version are the clients using?

Possibly useful links, in case you haven't already seen them:

Thanks JDC... I've pretty much read those and many others...but will go back through the links you provided.

The good news is 30 minutes ago, I connected to the second customer and their main person is able to print with Easy Print. Next is to get the owner to test... He's using a MAC which already caused him to not be able to even connect to the server. But we found a new version of the RDS software that should work.

Using a Mac (and not using Windows under Parallels or another VM), then Easy Print won't work.

Ya, I've read about needing a Windows machine for Easy Print.

The customer with the MAC is one of our smallest... His argument last week was "everything worked perfectly on the old server (2003)....Why should I have to make changes etc..." His one and only other user is using a WinXP machine... I did find a tweak that made her RDP connection work.

One wild thing I'm seeing - is that my older HP 2035 shows that advanced tab is grayed out.... Other printers/drivers that I added don't have this problem.

I'll find out soon enough if the one remaining person can print or not...

BUT, I still have six other clients on two other old servers that I need to move to a second new server.

And then there's the part where I turned my chair and grabbed the keyboard/mouse to my Win VISTA computer.... It connects and prints just fine on the new server with the HP 2035.

HP printer drivers have to be the most troublesome ones to set up despite being one of the most common.

Theoretically, there is supposed to be a way to set up printers to use either the Easy Print or the standard method on a per user basis. One of the links I found had info on this, however, whether it actually works or not is another question.

    Thanks again,

I've seen info on the "per user" for Win 7, 8 and 10... Am going to take another look to see if there is a server version.

The good news is that I managed to get the last user with the MAC connected and printing.

Luckily, I found some printer drivers that worked... The hard part was that the new RDS Apple to Microsoft software had similar settings that a Windows machine would have... You have to enable Drive, Clipboard and Printer sharing and the settings were a bit hard to find.
