    Virus may be on external drive

    I might have a virus on an external drive so I'm reluctant to plug it in. What's the odds of transferring something evil to the C:\ drive?

    Or, a better question, how should I deal with this situation?

    Thanks - rev

    Install Panda USB Vaccine, or BitDefender’s USB Immunizer on GOOD computer to protect it from any infected USB device.

    Then scan the drive with your AV program.

    Broni:
    I also threw in:

    * Semana
    * Security Task Manager, and
    * rkill.

    Semana and rkill both found additional serious threats and Security Task Manager allows you to investigate suspicious stuff by looking at the results of many many different anti-virus scans. For example, utorrent had a very high risk rating (90 out of 100) but is deemed harmless by a long list of anti-virus programs.

    When in doubt and you have conflicting verdicts from different anti-malware programs, assume all are accurate and debug accordingly. If you have a spare machine, plug it into that and see what happens before you plug the suspect HDD into your vital machine.

    Cześć Broni, sto lat!
