HDD hard drive
Can someone suggest a good internal HDD hard drive either 500GB or 1TB in size? Also, which OS would you choose (win 7 pro or win 10) if you were on the market for an OS? I appreciate the help in advance.

If it's going to be your boot drive, I'd go with an SSD instead.

C:\ drive SSD
then add the SATA HDD for storage is my route now a days.
You will not believe the difference in boot up time. How fast programs open, etc.

JDC2000, is that seagate drive you recommended better than a WD black drive? I don 't see any feedback on the seagate.
Midknyte and Train, it is going to be installed on a win xp pro pc. SSD can't be used on xp pcs.
Can someone recommend a good 120mm fan, as well?

SSD can't be used on xp pcs.
Can not use SATA drives either with out the SATA drivers for XP.
120mm fan with ball bearings is all I look for.

The Seagate ST1000NM0055 is an enterprise level drive with a 5 year warranty. The reviews I have seen for it indicate it is excellent, although somewhat more expensive. It might be overkill for an XP PC though. You can use an SSD on an XP PC - The Dell Mini 9, 10, 12 came with these. You would need to make sure that defrag is turned off.

JDC2000, I was under the impression that SSD's can't be installed on systems with win xp pro. So, they can?

SSD does not support TRIM on win xp pro. I think I will buy a HDD.

You can use an SSD with XP, although you would need to disable TRIM and Defrag.

If you are going to use XP though, a regular 7200 rpm HD should be fine (and cheaper). I assume that you are not going to be doing anything where you really need extreme speed.

JDC2000, no, I don't need a drive with speed. I think I will go with the seagate you mentioned though. I have been wanting to build a new pc for some time but am trying to find the time to do so. I appreciate the help of all who replied. Thanks.
