    Restore Point vs Recovery

It is a common problem that Windows 10 loses icons such as Microsoft Edge. When I rebooted, it kept looping with a message, something like, "bad_system_config_info" file. I tried to get to the restore points were unable to get to them. I tried everything, from the emergency menu with all the options, including booting in safe mode. None would let me boot back into Windows. I ended up having to reset the entire image by using recovery (to factory).

I am back up and running now and I googled that "Bad_System...." file. Apparently, this is also a common problem too.

Does Restore Point only work when a user logged into Windows? What else could I have done, in case this happens again? I think the only thing that I did not do was boot from the DVD again since I don't have it with me.

Make the dvd. Easy to do.
I made both the dvd and USB
When and how you can use them.

use the media creation tool, to download and make both.

You can run System Restore off the boot disc.

Was this an upgrade to Win10 or a clean install? If it was an upgrade, I'd check for updated Win10 drivers.

You could also run a hard drive diag and memory test, just to cover your bases.

    Thank you Train and MidKnyte!

Train, I will create DVD in case of future disaster like this morning.

Midknyte, I got to Option 1 in your provided link this morning but it never showed the restore point that I saved previously.

Could the loop of the reboot caused from corruption of the MBR file? Or is it hard to tell? I would boot into "Analyze" and then "Diagnosis" and then into the recovery screens that is in Midknyte's link. It never made back into windows so I had to do the "Reset".

"Analyze" and "Diagnosis"? I don't see those options in the Win10 boot menu.

We wouldn't be able to tell if the MBR got corrupted after you did the Reset.
You said a "factory reset" so I'm assuming it's a new computer that came with Windows 10?

What is the make/model of your system?

Midknyte and Train, "Analyze" and "Diagnose" are not options of the boot menu. They are what display when Windows is trying to boot back into Windows.

Actually, I found this and I think it was the same situation I was experiencing:
    http://mskeyoffer.blogspot.com/2016/...indows-10.html

I got to Figure A but never was able to get to Figure B in that article. It automatically went to Figure C which is the "Diagnosing" that I shared earlier. Then it went to Figure D & E.

    Here are the specification:
    https://content.abt.com/documents/72...A030_specs.pdf

It is not my computer. It is my work computer at the company.

    Thank You gentlemen!
