How do I block a site that isn't malicious?

Every time I go to a particular site it spawns two instances of another site I don't want to see. Can I block it by making some sort of entry in the hosts file? Or by any method?

    Thanks - rev

    What browser are you using?
    Are you using an adblocker?

You could use the hosts file if you know the name/IP of the site, but that's a bit tedious. Are you sure they are always the same site?

Browser is Chrome, no add blocker.

    >Are you sure they are always the same site?
Yes, two instances of the same thing and both automatically start playing video.

If I did have the name/IP, what would the hosts entry look like?

The first thing I would do is install an adblocker. Go with uBlock Origin.
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...jbkeiagm?hl=en

If the sites are still popping up after installing uBO, then you can add a filter.
Click on the uBO icon (top right), then click the black bar to open the dashboard
    Click on My Filters
Enter the website name (ex. www.sitename.com)
    Click Apply changes

If you really don't want to install an adblocker, you can try editing the hosts file. This way is more tedious, which is why I don't recommend it.
You need to open notepad as an administrator first.

Then you'd enter the IP and DNS name, and save the hosts file.
    127.0.0.1 www.sitename.com

127.0.0.1 is the loopback IP, so it basically points the website back to your computer instead of connecting to the real IP

No, that sounds fine. I'll give it a shot.

    Thanks!
