SpywareDr, Apples do run a lot more and I can't really find the justification for the higher price other than the prestige of owning one. I suppose I don't really see the advantage of buying an apple laptop over a windows laptop. Below is the list of Dell laptops that are part of the employer discount program. Is one superior is that list? I am not really a gamer.

Inspiron, XPS laptops, Alienware, and Chromebook.

Train, you sure have a lot of computers/laptops around the house.

I do BETA testing of new OS,s and my feed back has helped developers.

Now that Win 10 BETA is no more, I am working with a couple Linux distros.
By using different hardware, I usually catch wifi problems and how to work around them.
And post them to their forum. So they can make corrections. Something I enjoy doing.

I really need to purchase a laptop now and eventually when I get the time I want to build a new pc, as my pc has died. I would like to purchase a laptop in the next few days that I will use as my main computer that I want to connect the monitor, keyboard, and mouse that I was using on my pc. I am willing to spend approx. $500-$700 (can be negotiable). I usually leave my pc on 24/7, as I probably will leave my laptop on 24/7, as well. Could someone recommend a good brand/model with good specs and that has good hardware components that has a good track record of a good life span? I am looking for a new laptop, not refurbished. If you need any other info, please ask. I am open to suggestions because I value the info I receive in here and never was steered in a wrong direction in the past. My pc that I built had all the hardware that was recommended from you guys on virtualdr that lasted a long time and I was pleased with the pc components.

Is Dell the best laptop brand to purchase? I always question is Dell is the best choice because Dell has so many refurbished pcs/laptops for sale.

Dell has a lot of refurbs because they sell a lot of computers.

Dell has the best driver support, especially if you want to run multiple OSes. Most companies only provide drivers for the OS that came with the computer.

They last and when they come back in, there is no need to junk them out.

I am looking at the dell laptops and not sure which specs would be the best for me. First, should I go with amd or intel cpu? Which cpu is best with least issues?

    i3 or i5

I am happy with my Intel® Core™ i3-5015U Processor with 6GB of ram.
Might want something a bit better than this.

AMD systems tend to be cheaper, but I'm an Intel guy from way back.

You can look up the specs for the different CPUs here:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/

I'd also look for benchmarks if you're comparing 2 or more CPUs.

Desktops, AMD work fine for me, but do use Midkbyte's link and compare the cpus.

Has anyone had any experience with Dell Inspiron laptops? Is that a good model or is the XPS a much better model?

The XPS series has more metal case parts that plastic, so the build quality seems better. You really need to look at the actual specs like CPU and RAM. I think most XPS builds have SSDs now.

I've used both and both can get the job done. The XPS is so much better though it's not fair to compare.
