Just booted up my winXP... not useful nor safe? What to do?

So I just wanted to play an old game, counter strike, on my winxp machine. But apparently it's been released into the abyss. The machine is far from junk so I hate to throw it away, but are there any free options to use it safely on the internet? Like, can you upgrade to windows 7 for free or anything that still has security?

It seems unsafe to use it on my home network if it's a security issue.

    Thank you.
Thank you to the gracious members of Virtual Dr for helping me for free since 2003.

Not for free no. I know some here that have installed Windows 10 on older computers but I'm not one of them. Wait for someone like Train to see his as he's the one running W10 on older computers.

I am running Win 10 on a OLD Dell Optiplex 755 with only 2 GB of ram and it does just fine. But I do not do any gaming!

Of course I bought it as a refurbished, so It had Win 7 on it.

Post the make and model of your computer.

You'd have to buy a license for either Win7 or Win10. Not sure if you want to put more $ into an old system. Win10 is a free upgrade from Win7/8/8.1, not XP.

If you must use XP, I'd recommend using Firefox as your browser. Chrome already dropped support for XP. IE8 is way outdated.

Obviously you need to run antivirus and antimalware software as well.
