Inspiron 15 is a series. What is the actual model number? How old is the laptop? Approximately, how many power cycles did the battery go through? If the battery is more than a couple years old, it's probably at its end of life.

I'm using Dell Inspiron and I do have the same experience before. It also cant detect my battery and later found out that it was defective already.
