Why would opening files be VERY slow?

This is not just true when double clicking, say a Word doc, it's also true when right clicking to get the menu. The machine is running a lot of services so it might simply be short of resources but if anyone has other suggestions, I'd like to hear them.

    Thanks - rev

Takes time for office programs to start up. Whether M$ or OfficeLibre. They are not small either. OfficeLibre eats about 20 MB of ram.

    What are the system specs?

What are you seeing in the Task Manager - Performance?

What apps do you have running at startup?

Did you run a virus/malware scan?

The system doesn't look short of resources.

Did you look in Event Viewer for errors?

It wouldn't hurt to run a hard drive diag either.
