I use two different editing softwares, one free and one costly (but not that costly) The first is Faststone Image Viewer (free) and Photoshop Elements (costs about $79)

In windows I use Faststone image viewer , Jasc Photoshop Pro, yes a win 98 program which works in compatability mode, and Gimp. https://www.gimp.org/

Gimp is free as is the Faststone program.
Jasc is so old I do not remember what it cost.

I installed the other 2 mentioned, be a day or 2 before i check them out

May pick up the office eventually for ppt and the rest

Have you tried Picasa? It is a Google's free desktop. It has a good image organizing and editing tool. My daughter has been using that.

    Picasa

    Moving on from Picasa

Since the launch of Google Photos, we’ve had a lot of questions around what this means for the future of Picasa. After much thought and consideration, we’ve decided to retire Picasa over the coming months in order to focus entirely on a single photo service in Google Photos. We believe we can create a much better experience by focusing on one service that provides more functionality and works across mobile and desktop, rather than divide our efforts across two different products.
