    sound quqlity in skype

    I am using windows 8.1, 250gb hdd, 500gb ram.

    Using external speaker.

When used to listen songs from Youtube even with Full vol, No problem with the sound quality.

But when the same speaker used in Skype ( ver 7.1 updated auto ) even with min volume, i am getting screeching noise from the speaker.
With very very min vol it is ok but hearing becomes problem.

I have carried the solutions shown in skype, Windows Fix, etc.
    No improvement.

Also when listening songs from net, i find periodical ( 1-2 seconds) drop in down loading ( not due to BB speed as i dont see buffering rings ) & this continues in Skype also.
I could c the lip movement of my contact, but no audio sound.

    Shall be thankful for solution.

am getting screeching noise from the speaker.
This sounds like typical audio feedback.

Basically it's the speakers picking up the sound of the microphone and creating an acoustic feedback loop so stopping the loop by doing one of the following options is the way to go.

The best and simplest way to eliminate it is with headphones instead of speakers. Or you could get a combo mic/headset so both are conveniently combined as one device.. either USB or existing mini jacks.

You could also turn down the mic volume level and move it both closer to you and farther from the speakers and the sound from the speakers may be slightly directional so aim them away from the microphone.

Also have a look at this page.. it's for Windows 7 but much of it should apply to Win 8 as well.

    Fink,

I am aware of USB which my system is having, but what is Minijack.

Reducing the MIC vol, how to do it.
There is a control knob in speaker to reduce the vol but too much less will make inaudible.

I will try to keep the speaker away.

But in XP, i never had this problem.

Any suggestion for the last para of my post.

Thanks for the reply, i will revert after i speak to my daughter in skype

    fink,

I went back to skype & tried with Echo test.

The minute i increased the vol when skype message was relayed, the shriek noise came alive.
I was not using the mic..
When i started speaking on the mic to test, i changed the direction of the speaker & spoke away from it, but no improvement & problem persisted.

So , i thing Mike is Not the cause.

Is this a desktop computer or a laptop? What happens if you temporarily unplug the microphone as an experiment?

This is a minijack.. (typical headphone/ipod/cellphone type plug)

    Good Morning fink.

    Mine is Desk top.

As suggested, I removed the mic & tested with Echo test of Skype.

Even when I increased the vol in speaker , the shriek sound ( a sort of whistle ) which used to come previously, did not come, but a diff screech noise was noticed intermittently.

How come the speaker is fine with you tube.

Once again , I request u to go thro the last para of my first post. This problem is seen in youtube also.

I'm not sure about the youtube problem but I would go into Windows audio mixer and see if reducing microphone boost and/or volume solves the feedback/shriek problem. I'm not convinced the two things are related unless you get the shrieking while watching youtube videos.

Done all permutations & combinations as suggested by you & the link.
    Back to square one.
    Problem remains.
When i speak in the mic, i can feel the echo even at the lowest vol setting.
Can it be that my speakers are not suitable for skype.

But how come i did not have this problem when i was using XP.

Any way, Thanks fink for your time & help.

I will revert if i am able to solve .

Did you try using headphones instead of speakers? Any cheap old set would work.. even just borrow a set if you can to test it out. Otherwise I'm running out of suggestions. Perhaps others will have more ideas.

I'll move this topic to a busier forum so more people might see it.

do u mean to say that if I use a Head phone instead of speaker, my problem may get solved.

    I will try.

But assuming that it gets solved, what is the use when my daughter is on Skype & both of us are not able to hear simultaneously.
    Speaker means everyone can hear.

Besides, it is not a technical soln.

But I will definitely try & revert.
I may take some time as I do not have one readily, but will buy.

Can there be any problem with the speaker compatibility with Skype.
At very low vol things are fine

Using the headphones will determine if it's an acoustic feedback problem. If it works with the headphones then that will tell us that it is. If the problem persists then it's an electronic or a software issue. I'd borrow some headphones first rather than spend money. Even a very cheap pair of earbuds from a cell phone or ipod would work.
