Wife's laptop won't connect to google, gmail, anything googleapis
My wife has an Acer laptop with Win 7 64. She uses it only occasionally. Today she tried to check her gmail. The page wouldn't load. No matter which browser she tried, she got nothing. I noted that pages coming from googleapis.com server were unresponsive. She can navigate to other websites but none associated with Google. Am I asking the right question? I tried System restore and found that her updates stopped on Aug 30, and system restore failed. Yesterday as she shut down/restarted her computer the light blue starting/closing screen indicated that 14 updates were being installed. They're not visible today. Zonealarm is functioning and shows the proper updates.
Weird. Anyway, I thought I would give a shout to the doctor. Thanks.

Are you sure you didn't somehow blacklist Google in ZA? Check the settings and/or disable ZA and see what happens.

Yes, I've thought of that. I'll try it. Thanks.

You might even want to uninstall ZA completely and see if that fixes anything. It's odd that only Google would be blocked.
What antivirus/antispyware are you using? You can try running Malwarebytes.

Is there any way for her smartphone to screw up what the computer can see? She's getting gmail on the phone, and she didn't set it up to do that; it just happened.

No. The phone is independent of your computer's browser.
