Installing the modem did not get rid of the unknown.
I can copy but when I try to paste it is greyed out?

If you are copy and pasting from a .rtf file, I'm not sure why it would be greyed out. You should be seeing something like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>ipconfig /all

If the computer is getting an IP, gateway, and DNS, it should be able to get out to the Internet.

Dumb question, but are you sure there isn't a second network adapter? The NIC should be on the motherboard for that model.

I will take a look, but I think there is only one. When you copied that, did you have to open with wordpad? When I pulled it up on other computer, I tried to copy to clipboard, but I couldn't?

Nope. I copied it straight from the command prompt.
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...ommand-prompt/
That /par is pretty weird. Somehow that was added as the end-of-line character.
It looks like the network card is grabbing a proper IP, gateway, and DNS, so it should be able to connect to the Internet.
Are you getting any other warnings? Like an error message in the systray?

No not getting any other msgs in systray. I still have the same question marks under other devices also.
For some reason it isn't seeing my connection. That 1394 is a adapter, I think, because it has its own connection,
but I disabled it, trying to get my other one to work. It is showing that it is connected and its doing something, sending and receiving??
I am thinking about getting me a HAMMER...LOL

If you have (or had) a connection icon in the System Tray / Notification Area for the 1394 Adapter, you should be able to right-click on it and show the status.
You could post a screen capture of the question mark items in Device Manager.

As far as I can tell, the NIC is working properly. I'm guessing you can get to the router web console? If so, then at least we know the system is connecting to the router.
That 1394 is a adapter, I think, because it has its own connection,
but I disabled it, trying to get my other one to work. It is showing that it is connected and its doing something, sending and receiving??
Again, 1394 is firewire. It shouldn't affect your NIC. Disabling it is fine, though.
It is strange that there is a second NIC detected. If you remove the device and allow Device Manager to rescan, does it come back?
I'm guessing the other device is still a video card? And you already install the Nvidia drivers from the Dell site?
Try to verify the unknown devices:

Yes the nic comes back when I rescan it in device manager, looking for the driver and it says can't find driver. All the drivers I installed none of them work with the nic or the video controllers.
Yes the Nvidia drivers are installed from the Dell site.
Do you think it would help if I remove all the drivers and start over again? I can't understand why I can't get online since it is showing that the network is sending and receiving. Do you think it is the yellow devices causing it? I feel like it is in my settings, something is not right.
I may have to reinstall windows xp again.... Thanks for your help!!!

What happens if you disable the network device with no drivers in Device Manager?
What happens if you open a Command Prompt and try to ping the Gateway?
ping 192.168.2.1

I disabled both video controller and network controller and after I booted it came back with red X on both.
When I pinged 192.168.2.1 it send 4 and received 4
could you tell me how to copy the device manager, I have tried but nothing works.. Thanks for continuing to help me.

If you got 4 packets sent and 4 received, then the network adapter that is not disabled is communicating with the Gateway. It appears that the Gateway is not working as a DNS Server however. You could try changing the DNS Server settings to Google's settings or OPenDNS settings:

That sounds like the NIC is working, so try jdc2000's suggestion with the DNS.
It's still odd that there is an unknown NIC and video adapter.
Which Nvidia video drivers did you install? I see multiple listings on the Dell site.
nVidia GeForce 7300 LE 128, v.82.68, A01
nVidia GForce 6150, v.91.48 (32-bit), A00
