[RESOLVED] XP Home repair install
1--
I just did a repair install of my XP Home computer, but I can't find my Service Pack CD's, if indeed I had them. I might have just D/L them. SP 1a is already on my CD with Home, but I need 2 and 3. Are these diff from the SP's I have on my XP Pro? Is there somewhere I can still safely D/L the SP's and the updates that came after? I would prefer to make a CD for posterity rather than just D/L them into the OS.
2--
It's some years since I did my last repair install. After doing it today, some of my programs are totally installed, but others just have their own Program Files folder but are not actually installed enough to execute. Is this what I should have expected or did i do something wrong?

If you have SP1a, you can just install SP3. SP3 is cumulative. Home and Pro are the same SPs.
Get SP3 here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...ylang=en&id=24
You might have to reinstall apps after a repair install. That is expected, especially if you did a repair install without a slipstreamed SP3 disc.

I'm rusty. I goofed, should have saved the Application Data and drivers. :-(
After SP 3, I have to D/L each KB separately, or are they grouped somewhere in one huge file? There must be about 120

Who knew? I don't understand the Auto Patcher posts. I need something I can just D/L and forget about. Looks like a lot of users have done the 2nd one. It's not my primary computer, so I'll do one or the other.

It took me some time to get around to reinstalling, then I had problems, but the system is now functional. I'm ready to install all the updates since SP3, but I don't understand either of the 2 pages you posted. Should I just go to MS and start downloading? Are the updates still there?

You'd need to download Autopatcher first
http://www.autopatcher.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=3
Unzip and Start APUP, click "Options", in the address bar add a "2" (without quotes) after releases, or simply copy and paste the following http://www.autopatcher.net/releases2.list
Check the box for XP SP3
Once you have completed your download restart APUP, click "Options" click "Default" to return to main list.
Should I just go to MS and start downloading? Are the updates still there?
You can still run Windows Update. You can't download a pack of all the updates from Microsoft.

Windows handled it nicely. The downloaded updates came in slowly over a few days in the background, not even disrupting my work
