[RESOLVED] taking ownership of a folder .....
First off thanks to all for your assistance over the years .....
Windows 7 professional 64 bit
Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0
AMD 1100T
16 gigs ddr3
5 Sata hard drives = 9.5 tb's
Not really a problem affecting my system, just annoying.
On all my hard drives 4 of which I use for storage there are some folders, with long names consisting of lower case letters and numbers example:
0f45c2bb0caadcfd987a9428f8677f2e
5cee28fd43b28d32394514a8b7
844c42c24f724dd984990bb1a9
6049bd3414799c65af
I've managed to gain access to the folders, inside the folders are 2 more folders, amd64 and i386
These folders are on all my Hard drives, I would like to delete these folders but when I try it says I need permission form someone called someone called the same name as the folder.
My question is, do I need these folders and if not, how do I delete them.
Thanks, surf

surfacerider--
I think the answer is that you can delete SOME of the sxs files. These are remnants from old Windows Updates.

Then boot the computer with a non-Windows Operating System and delete away.
A "Live" USB flash drive contains a complete bootable computer operating system (OS). When you boot a computer from it, this OS loads into, and then runs from the computer's memory instead of booting from the OS on your hard drive. This allows you to run a different OS without installing it or making any changes to your computer's current configuration.
To create one of these, download an ISO file containing the OS you want to use, such as Ubuntu, Slax or Zorin, then use something like Rufus to burn that ISO file to a USB key/flash drive
Now boot your computer from this USB key/flash drive and your computer will be running the OS on it instead of the one on your hard drive.
When you're done, simply remove the USB key/flash drive and reboot your PC from the hard drive.
Be careful though. If you delete something needed by Windows, you just broke Windows.

Ok thanks SpywareDr ..... Slax got me in to delete the folders.
messing around with the security settings in properties changed all the folders on the hard drive to all with the little lock thingie ..... but I can access all the folders ok. If I need to get around to deleting them at least I know what to do now.
Thanks again everyone that took the time to help me out.
