What do YOU Docs use for computer protection?
Hi docs. I tried to download an owner's manual of all things and my PC went kafluey!!! I spent all morning running scans; Microsoft Security Esentials scanned my whole computer right after and found nothing. When I ran Malwarebytes it found tons of bad guys including a few Trojans (same one I think.) I have one nagging window that pops up now but I think I am much better off. I also ran SuperAntispyware and it caught some baddies. Aside from the nagging window I would like to know just what you guys use to protect your computers. I know you're not supposed to run more than one antivirus program at the same time but sometimes the antimalware software seems to do a better job! I would love to hear your take...

Avast and Malwarebytes.
But more importantly I never download or install anything from unknown sources and most sites that offer free things are near the top of the list to be avoided or at least seriously scrutinized.
On the odd occasion I really need to get something infectable on line I try and get it from the most reliable site, usually the original manufacturer, and then scan it here...
https://www.virustotal.com/
to see what their scanners say.
Even then I will run something new in a sandbox first to be triple sure it's safe.
eg- Sandboxie
The file that infected you was probably an .exe. Manuals are nearly always .pdf. An .exe should have raised alarm bells even if it said it was just a "download helper" or something like that to get the actual manual. Never, ever run a downloader to get other software.
You should have your computer scanned in our intensive care forum to get rid of any lingering malware. It never gets better on it's own.. usually worse.
VirtualDr email notices are not working.

AV and Antispy apps use different definitions, so they won't detect the same things.
I also ran SuperAntispyware and it caught some baddies.
SAS isn't up to par anymore. They got bought out a few years ago. I'd uninstall it.

What browser are you using? Are you running an adblocker or not?

How do I have my computer scanned in intensive care forum? By the way, thanks for your answer. It's too bad that you can't use your computer to make life easier without having the added problem of some idiot sending a virus to screw up your day!

What do you mean by "adblocker?"

Yes it is.
And some of that junk is darn hard to get rid of. Cryptolocker is about the worst
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...cryptowall-30/
Virus are not to plentyful now a days it is the malware that is tearing things up.
Adblock = AdBlock is a content filtering and ad blocking extension for the Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera web browsers.AdBlock allows users to prevent page elements, such as (and mainly) advertisements, from being displayed. And from where most of the nasty malware stuff comes from it seems to me. And the junk a lot of download sites are adding surprise packages to their downloads

After a little research I downloaded Spybot...is that a good choice or what do you recommend?

Spybot is just as outdated as Superantispyware, probably more so actually.
