    Error on Motherboard

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop that has Windows 7, 64 bit Operating System. I ran the System Diagnostics tests recently - using HP Support Assistant. I received that I have the following error:
7/3/2015 Tuneup Failed Listed a number code, Memory Module.

After that, I called where I bought the computer & they stated it was a battery on the Motherboard. My question to you have you ever heard of this? I have a power pack battery, but am I correct this is not what they are indicating? I would like your comments or suggestions.

Without knowing what the exact error message it will be hard to determine the exact problem. The only memory that might be affected by a battery on the motherboard (not the main laptop battery) would be the NVRAM that stores the BIOS settings. Are you getting BIOS error messages or is the system date and time incorrect when you boot the laptop up?

To check the main system RAM memory, you could run memtest.

Yes, a laptop has 2 batteries. One for the BIOS and the run Battery.
Since you did not list your laptop, here is a Bios/CMOS battery installed.
