Reverting changees in Win 8
Loaded Win 8, and truing to update to Win 8.1. Load fine. Seems to get updates, but when installing, the message indicates that the install can't take place, and the system is deinstalling the changes. Can't get the 8.1 upgrade until the updates are correctly installed. Am I missing a download that will facilitate the upgrades for Win 8? Also can't activate the Win 8 until the updates are completed. It's a valid copy of Win 8, purchased when Win 8 was first available. That would be the version that sold for
$39. Bought several copies at that time. Installed another copy on a Sony Vaio notebook, and no problems. Jim S.

Have you tried applying one update at a time?

You need to install the prereqs first, then you need to install them in order.
You didn't say if you have 32 or 64 bit Windows.

:: KB2919442 is a prerequisite for Windows 8.1 Update
Windows8.1-KB2919442-x64.msu
clearcompressionflag.exe
Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu
Windows8.1-KB2932046-x64.msu
Windows8.1-KB2959977-x64.msu
Windows8.1-KB2937592-x64.msu
Windows8.1-KB2938439-x64.msu
Windows8.1-KB2934018-x64.msu
If that still doesn't work, post the exact model of your Sony. It's possible that the hardware is not compatible with 8.1 even if it works for 8.0
