Skype audio issues
I am not sure if I posted this question in the right section. When I chat with friends and family on skype and they have their cam on, I can not hear them at all when they talk. Can someone tell me what is the cause and how to correct this issue?

Use Windows System Restore to restore your system back to a date before the problem occurred.

It has been like this for a long time. I just learned to live with it.

Then the next option would be to restore a backup you made when it was working correctly.
No restore point or backup? Kick yourself. You missed the easy solutions. You're now left digging through bazillions of Windows and/or program settings.

I've only used skype once and that was a while ago but have a look in it's settings to make sure that it's set to use the hardware (spkrs, usb headphones, whatever) that you're using to try and get audio from the feed.
Also have a look at Windows own audio/spkr settings while skype is running to see if the default there is set to the same hardware as above.

I am not sure what the issue could be. I suppose uninstalling/reinstalling skype would be my best option? I don't think I ever could hear the other person when chatting with family and friends on skype though.

Wouldn't hurt but I'm pretty sure that you'll need to have a close look at the default settings regardless. Are you using a headset (USB? Mini jack?) or the external speakers?

Daughter said she has to make a change in sound somewhere as it adds something in there and sound does not work with it in there. Words to that effect anyway.

I appreciate the help.
I checked my audio setting in skype and they are 2 options next to speakers. They are ATI HD audio rear output and Realtek audio rear output and it is set to ATI HD audio rear output. The box next to "automaticlally adjust speaking settings is not checked also.
Fink, how do I do " Also have a look at Windows own audio/spkr settings while skype is running to see if the default there is set to the same hardware as above. ?
Train, do you know which setting your daughter made with her audio?

Did you try the Realtek? That's the sound card output. Fairly sure the ATI HD output is for HDMI.
