Need some help with this neat little new toy. Would like not to have to log in to an online account in order to log on to the machine, would like this to be a standalone unit, than if I’m traveling log on to the on line account to get things. So Can the 8.1 ver of windows not make you log in to a Windows online account, Have not been able to only log on the machine and not the online account. Is this a way that Microsoft is trying to control the world?. I would like to only log on the machine and if needed log on to other sites or accounts.

They want you to think it's totally necessary to have a Microsoft acc't but it's not. Here's a tutorial on how to create a local acc't on the computer. As they say.. "You can just ignore the "not recommended" advice."
