[RESOLVED] Aspire T160 and want to uprade the cpu to a Athlon 64 X2
I have an Aspire T160 and want to uprade the cpu to a Athlon 64 X2 3800+ the wattage is different
from the current cpu athlon 64 3500+
the Athlon 64 x2 3800+ is 89 watts (dual core)
the athlon 64 3500+ is 67 watts
the power supply is 300 watts
I believe the motherboard is Acer FC51GM
Can I do this using the current power supply ?
Thanks
..

Those are two completely different sockets. The T160 has a s754. The Athlon 64 x2 3800+ is a 939 or AM2 socket, depending on the model.

If anything, the fastest CPU you could get would be this:

Hmm. There must be multiple models of the T-160. This is the one I saw:

You can calculate the wattage here:

I'm not sure if I would trust Acer PSUs, but you can give it a go.

If that is the right mobo you listed, here is the manual
http://acersupport.com/acerpanam/man...60_SG_Book.pdf
The Acer FC51GM - seems to be a Foxconn MOBO.
Then I found this
If you hunt around, you could probably still get something like a 4200+ X2 . Post is from 2007.

Hi all
Using all the info supplied by all you good people
Finally got a chance dig into this machine.
Reviewed the bios update, although it said failure it is posting at boot R02-B1 (which is most current) old was R02-A3
1:Cleared the cmos
2:Removed the old processor Athlon64 3500+ 2.GHz
3:Cleaned the heatsink
4:Installed the new processor/with artic silver Athlon64 X2 3800+ dual core 2.GHz
5:Reboot went through post booted to windows all looked good
Just going to run some comparisons, see how much difference there is
Again thanks to all for your input.I would have not got this far without it

Hi Train
Thanks I reviewed the comparison
Over the last couple of days I've been playing around with this Processor in different applications
I was less then impressed.
I thought the 3500+ gave better performance
I thought I would be able to see a visual difference ,as I have seen with other upgrades
Not sure why this is but that may be a another issue
