Been using the Window firewall for years now.
In Windows 8, Windows Defender replaces Microsoft Security Essentials , good to go! I use it in Win 10 preview. and have used Microsoft Security Essentials for years.

    I would add Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam
    and
    Temp File Cleaner
    http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe
And run them once a week

And later you may want to add anouther 4 GB of ram depending on what you use the computer for.

Safer to use than AVAST Avira and the like in my book.

Did you make the recovery dvds ?
This is what you really need to know.

You are the admin but sometimes we have to beat the system. But you may never have to do that.

You can click on your user name here and find the option to View Forum Posts. Guessing this is the one you're asking about:

Then instead of simply clicking the program to run it, try right-clicking it and then selecting "Run as administrator".

Or install as admin by right clicking the setup.exe and select run as admin.

ya I see that, but when I right click on any kind of pages the small windows that open never show that, only back, foward, save page, and so on
but here there are other things not working, for some I had to first recover and than reload 8.1, after dvd is working, but now windows installer is nowere to find, and several apps like component services just freezes, when I set fonts at a certain size after a while they go back,
this 8 is really not working good, but now I start to have some bad thinkings, in regard to the fact that all those events could be correlated to the quest for cash all the support I try both ms and lenovo.
"to always think bad sooner or later you get it right"use to say an old controversial italian politician just passed over I use to know, and looks like this is one of those times, if you only consider what kind of garbage you have to get on the start page that you suppose to buy, and lenovo same.
they are pushing people to linux or even apple, where finally you dont get viruses or malaware.

Correct, because it would make no sense to run a 'page' as an administrator, only a 'program'.

Could be due to things like Malware (malicious software), flaky RAM, hardware problems, corrupt files, hardware and/or software incompatibilties, etc., etc., etc. First steps would be to run diagnostic tests aginst the RAM and hard drive, run a "chkdsk /f" and "sfc scannow", and then get Broni to help you test for malware.

Could be I suppose but, there are and untold number of people around the world currently running Microsoft and Lenovo software and hardware successfully ... and I'm one of them.

Your start (home) page can be changed to whatever you like.

AFAIK, there are no Operating Systems immune to attack.

Malware can jam up Apple just about as fast as it does Windows. Had to clean a few out. And there are not many tools that can do it.
Now for geneology work, you are about stuck with windows, as one example.

Now for most internet work , this antique does just fine.
