So what do you reckon was the issue and how did the "Smart Wrapper" get on to my computer?

There is no way to tell.
There are so many ways to infect given computer.

Computer is doing fine, so far so good. Secunia PSI is taking forever to load though. Waited for couple of hours before shutting it down and just restarted Secunia.

Ok, managed to get Secunia PSI up, just updating all the various applications now.
