DOS versus NTFS; How to format HD?

With the computers I've built, I've used DOS FDISK to make partitions & format such.

How to do the same if my "refurbished" computer sez; NTLDR (NT Loader) missing?

PUNT? Shotgun? Cuss & beat on my machine?

When you get to the custom part, that is where I delete the partition, remake it and it is formated before the install

Yes & no. I got a 32 bit OS CD, but need the 64 bit Win 7 CD.

As far as wiping the HDD clean * partitioning the drive without DOS, I'm at a loss. Can such cleaning & partitioning without DOS be accomplished?

No, the same identical steps for both.

    My steps,
    Install Win 7
    Install AV
    Install IE 11

    Now get the 200+ updates.

Watch out for KB 3035583 http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...35#post1488635

DBAN (Darik's Boot And Nuke) - Hard Drive Disk Wipe and Data Clearing

Then, the partitioning and formatting will need to be done using the operating system that will be installed on the hard drive.

(All versions of Windows released since 2001 can delete, create and format partitions for you before you begin the actual installation process).
