Resolved [RESOLVED] windows 8 update failed to update then rolls back starts over again..

Daughter brought her 8.1 HP laptop over as she can't get the updates installed ..
    scenario:

start up PC and first item up is- Installing updates 1% etc etc etc ... soon 60% etc then 93% ( over 15 minutes) & then... its says 'failed to install updates ' .. 'rolling back updates do not shut down ' .. after 15 minutes the HP logo comes up and and it starts all over again wit hthe same first message - .. along with warning ' don't shut down PC .. '

I have tried alt control delete // restarting PC, . and even tried safemode .. all no go .. I can get in to the bios though .
so bottom line it is in a revolving circle.. " detects updates .. fails updates .. rolls back updates .. detects updates again .."

her HP laptop came with no CD . but I have a purchased 8.1 windows disc. - can I do a recovery? or or repair on her PC with my windows disc..?

That sounds like the latest in a series of bad Microsoft updates. There is a fix for it, let us know if you are unable to locate instructions for it.

One of the first things that appears when you boot up the system is a Recovery Media Creator prompt. Most if not all manufacturers do this now. You should be able to recovery from the recovery partition unless the hard drive fails. If you look up the exact model number, you could find the specific instructions.

Did you disable automatic updates or not? If you don't disable automatic updates, it's going to keep trying.

Did you try manually installing the specific update? What is the KB number?

haven't resolved to the disc just yet.... but in the mean time it would be nice to at least get into safemode i could then get int the control panel and uninstall bad update .. one post I found said the problem was around windows media player 11 if I go back to nine it should also fix it .. as it is nhow just a black screen telling me it has failed the update and is removing the update but that just puts me back to the front of this cycle ..

Got a hold of microsoft help and basically just keep turning off and starting up over and over till finally logged into windows , then went into update history and removed the failed updates then did another new refresh for available updates found 31 new updates for windows 8.1 , it was a massive update took over an hour to download and install these updates.
