Going INSANE trying to configure MS Outlook 2010 to pull in emails from Gmail

I just wiped the C: drive over the weekend and reinstalled Win7 Pro-64.

I also reinstalled MS Office 2010, including MS Outlook. I have tried and tried to get Outlook set up to retrieve emails from Gmail, but to no avail.

For anyone interested, I followed instructions at the link below.

    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/17248...-outlook-2010/

I followed the directions explicitly; at the point where you enter "User Name," I tried entering it both with and without "@gmail.com"

At this point, I'm thinking there's something wrong with the instructions, but who knows -- I'm a hardware geek.

    Thanks in advance,
    David G.

P.S. Yes, I did back up my email (.PST files) before reinstalling Windows and Office.

GMail's help file has instructions too.... and they look the same as the link you posted... But Gmail's are a little better....

    User name can be anything...

Are you doing IMAP or POP3?
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Thank you for your comments, Steve. I am trying to set it up for IMAP.

Make sure you have disabled two-steps authenfication . This might fix your issue.

Thanks, Seth84 ..... I'm not familiar with that setting. I'm assuming it's in Outlook (not in browser) ?
