Resolved [RESOLVED] Windows 8.1 and Acronis not working together

Hi All, ..................... For years I used an Acronis CD to back up my Windows 7 computer with no problems. Now I'm getting familiar with a new Windows 8.1 system and it doesn't recognize the Acronis. Some differences between the two operations: With seven, I was backing up to a separate hard drive and with the 8.1 I'm trying to back up to a 78 GB external drive.

Previously on starting, I would boot from the Acronis CD and and would get a blinking cursor on a black screen followed by the Acronis procedures. Now the problem is that using the same start up process the 8.1 system goes directly to Windows. Does anyone have any suggestions which can get Win8.1 and Acronis working together?

What version of Acronis are you running? You need at least TI2014 build 6614.

(!) Windows 8.1 is supported in Build 6614 or later.

You may need to disable secure boot in the bios..

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/.../dn481258.aspx

That is what I had to do to.

    Another tutorial..

VirtualDr email notices are not working.

That's a possibility, but TI2014 is supposed to support UEFI with secure boot enabled. Wouldn't hurt to try, though.

You'd need TI2014 or higher to support UEFI boot and Windows 8.1.

Hi All, ................. Midknyte: After reviewing your two posts, the only conclusion that I could arrive at was that my Acronis program is about five to six years too old to work with the new UEFI system.

Fink: After looking over the two links you provided with their warnings, I decided not to get involved making changes in the bios.

The apparent solution to my problem is that it's time to procure a new image backup program. My thanks to each of you . for your interest .
