Reducing file size
What ho guys and gals,
I want to put a number of animation files, formatted as avi / flv / mpg files onto a DVD. To date, the total size is less than 4.7gb (it is actually about 4.4gb) but I have found the if the total size is about 4.4gb, I get a disk full message before I can burn the disk.
The answer is simple, reduce the size of the largest avi file, which is currently 762,968kb to around 600,000kb would be fine.
But how? I have a number of conversion programs, and even VLC, but everything I do, the file is either about the same size or larger. None of the programs give an estimated output size that I can see. Also, I know I can change the bit rate, output size, etc, etc. but I don't know what any of these actually is doing to the quality. A couple of the films are about 1.5 hours long, the file is about 270,000kb and the quality looks just fine on my 22" monitor. Not perfect but good enough for a late night watch.
how do I reduce the file by just a little bit?
Thanks and toodle pip

DVDShrink for imgburn or Nero. It's what I use. Sorry no link but if you go to www.videohelp.com they have the download you need under their Tools section.

I have DVD Shrink but thought that was only for reducing a regular DVD film to 4.7gb for home burning?

Can't say, never tried it with home made type files. But it's worth the try isn't it?

DVD Shrink will only accept vob files.
Managed to reduce it a little with Handbrake. Never used it before, don't know what it is doing but it has knocked a few bytes off. That means another addition to the tool box!
