dvd drive shows up as local disk

I have a Latitude E6420 and just installed Win 7 64 Bit. In the bios it is set to RAID. In Windows Explorer it looks like I have two hard drives, C & D. I can't right click my D and see the word Eject. It is called a Local Disk not a DVD. I have went into Device Mgr and removed it and restarted and it will show up as a DVD for about three seconds and then reverts back to a hard drive or local disk. Is there a fix for this?

RAID I hope you have 2 or more hdds. If not, that needs to be disabled.

    Have you installed windows updates?

    Install OS
    install av program
install updates, about 200 of them now.
if wireless, be sure to go into device manager, the wireless nic, Power, and uncheck "Allow the computer to shut the device down to save power".

I have a fresh copy of Windows put on the computer. It is a laptop so there is only one drive in the computer. The CD or DVD is just showing up as a local Disk D:.
The drive works, I tested but should not be a hard drive but should show up as a DVD drive in a separate catagory.
Of course the Raid is a setting in my bios. If I change that I get a threat that my pc may not start. I can test that theory though and change it back.

Yes I change it ATA and computer did not boot. I tried AHCI and it did not boot. I changed it back to RAID and the computer booted. He did not explain how he suggested me to disable it. I did this in the bios. I did disable it as well and the computer said, "NO HARD Drive Found". So anyhow it is back to RAID and still the DVD is showing up as a HD. The category Devices With Removal Storage is not even showing up. Hummmm, what's next? Look at my attached picture.

Set it to AHCI and do a clean install.
Only way to straighten that out.
    After seeing what you posted.

That's what I was thinking. Just wanted to see if it could be fixed without a clean install. If I pull the drive, turn on the computer then stick the drive in then it does go in its right catagory calling it Devices with Removable Storages. If I close down Windows Explorer and then reopen it then it will pop back up into the HD catagory right before my eyes. It's funny that there is not a lot of information about it on any websites. Do you think AHCI is better than ATA for my new install?

AHCI works better for SATA drives.

ATA works but can be much, much slower, think IDE speeds.

    Devices with Removable Storages.
USB devices normally are what fall into this category and sometimes eSATA.

I just re installed Windows 7 and now I have my category and the DVD shows up in the right place. I just did not want to spend 3 hours doing all this work. I did choose the AHCI as well. Anyhow thanks for the confirmation to do this. Still the problem is still unsolved.
