[RESOLVED] Another MS Windows Update BUG

KB3013455 - is known to cause display issues on Vista and Windows Server 2003.

My developers have spent two days troubleshooting an issue...when along comes another client in a different state with the same issue.

Thanks... And in my case - with all the troubleshooting we did - we might have killed the machine to the point of needing to reimage it.

I think I'll find a tall bridge and jump.

KB3013455 apparently does not adversely affect Windows operating systems other than those mentioned--Vista and Windows Server 2003.

Actually it's XP, Vista, Win Server 2003 and 2008...

I wish I had dug a little deeper last week. Before we found out about the update bug, we uninstalled our accounting software and it took all day to get the machine back up and running.

The patch to fix the update is here and it works.

But if you uninstalled the bad boy KB 3013455 you have to install it before running the patch.

Issue 1

Some users cannot install this security update if their computers meet the following conditions:

Have a multiple-boot configuration of Windows and various distributions of Linux
Use a non-Windows boot loader
Have Windows and Linux installed on separate drives

We have been able to verify that systems that have the Windows boot loader enabled as the primary loader are successfully able to install this update and that systems that have a non-Windows boot loader specified as the primary boot loader cannot install the update, even if the user uses that loader to select Windows.

Issue 1 workaround

To work around that issue, you can either use Windows as the default boot loader or you can change your BIOS settings to enable the Windows boot loader directly when you install this update.

Clearly that warning wasn't there when it was initially released.

Time was when I wouldn't have to wait to install updates to see if they caused problems then it changed to me deciding to wait 2 or 3 days to install them now I see I have to wait longer than a week. Inexcusable for this to happen so often.

I wondered when that would happen. And they wonder why some of use are using linux almost full time.
Family Tree Maker, my scanner, are not ported to Linux yet.
And clients are still scared of it.
