    Permissions

    Hey guys,
It's me again with a stupid problem and this time it's the ignorant permissions requirment in win 7.
I can't get into certain folders and things because of the special permissions which I can't figure out how to change. I've gotten into the sercurity permissions folders but then special permissions is grayed out on some and I can't find out how to get rid of it.
I guess what I'm asking, is there a way I can get rid of this whole permissions thing and not be bothered by this nonsense ever again?
I know Microsoft likes to tell you what's best but why can't they just leave all this stuff to options? I'm the only one on this computer and I don't need all this stuff.
Thanks for helping so much in the past guys.

Which folders are you having issues with? Some "folders" in Windows 7 aren't real folders, they are what Microsoft calls "junction points", which are areally just pointers to the real folders. They used these because some idiot at Microsoft had the bright idea to change the names of certain system folders, but then remembered that a lot of software was set up to use the old folder names and wouldn't work with the new names.

So that's why. I never knew it was that dumb/simple. It just never made sense as to why they were there and eventually you just take it for granted and stop wondering.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.

Perhaps this article on taking ownership and changing permissions will help.
    http://www.addictivetips.com/windows...ion-ownership/

Note the link to Lock Hunter if that doesn't work.

    Another approach to taking ownership.

Thanks for the fast response guys.
It's the C:\Documents and Settings\AllUsers\Documents is not accessible
    Access is denied.
That same message is on the \Me\My Documents folder.
I also think I took ownership of those but I'm very confused now.
I just want to get in those folders and just want this stupid thing to go away.
    Thanks again guys.

    Hey guys,
That second "How to Geek" website had a link to a little hack of "Take Ownership" which worked perfectly. Now if I find a folder that is blocked all I have to do is use that little program. All you have to do is right click a folder and select "Take Ownership" and it works.
Thanks a million to all you guys once again.

That is a junction point. As jdc mentioned, it's not a real folder.

Look at this link for the old and new paths:

Wow how ridiculous is all the junction points and what is the use of them except to cause confusion? I'm so happy Welshjim gave me that link to "Take Ownership" it solves all my problems with this so far.
Thanks to all of you and for explaining the junction points also.

Did you just starting using Windows 7 from Windows XP? The reason those junction points are there is for backwards compatibility for older apps that still use the XP folders. MS changed the default folder locations in Vista and they are the same as 7 and 8/8.1.

You really shouldn't be messing with the junction point permissions. They are merely shortcuts to the real folders.

Those junction point allow my old windows 98 programs to run in Win 7, R-click the shortcut and selected properties and select XP and they run just spiffy!
